What is laser dentistry?
Dental lasers use focused light energy to work on soft tissue, such as the gums, with precision. In a smile makeover, a laser may be used to reshape the gum line so that teeth appear better proportioned, or to prepare gums before veneers or crowns.
Laser treatment is not suitable for every situation, and in many cases conventional techniques remain the better option. Your clinician will explain whether a laser is appropriate for you and what the alternatives are.

Local anaesthetic is used where needed and the laser is applied to the planned area.

Things to consider
- As with any procedure, there may be discomfort, swelling or sensitivity during healing.
- Gum contouring changes the gum line and may not be reversible.
- Laser treatment is one option among several; it is not always the most suitable.
