Overview

What does All-on-X mean?

"All-on-X" is a broad term for full-arch implant treatment where the number of implants, usually between four and eight, is chosen to suit your bone, bite and goals rather than following a fixed formula.

For people with significant bone loss, more advanced techniques may be discussed. Some of these involve referral to, or collaboration with, other practitioners. Your clinician will explain all options, including what is and is not suitable in your case.

Before you decide

Things to consider

  • Complex cases can carry higher surgical risk and longer treatment times.
  • Risks include infection, swelling, nerve injury, sinus complications and implant failure.
  • Ongoing maintenance and reviews are essential.

Any surgical or invasive procedure carries risks. Before proceeding, you should seek a second opinion from an appropriately qualified health practitioner.

FAQs

Common questions

All frequently asked questions

What is the difference between All-on-4 and All-on-6?

Both support a fixed full-arch bridge. All-on-4 uses four implants, often angled to make the most of available bone. All-on-6 uses six implants to spread biting forces further. The right number depends on your bone, jaw size and bite.
