Cosmetic dental treatment can make a real difference to how you feel about your smile. Because some treatments are irreversible, it is worth asking the right questions first.

  1. What are all my options? Including more conservative approaches such as whitening, bonding or orthodontics.
  2. Is any of this irreversible? For example, preparing teeth for veneers or crowns.
  3. Are my teeth and gums healthy enough? Decay, gum disease and bite problems should be addressed first.
  4. What are the risks? Ask about sensitivity, chipping, failure and what would happen if something went wrong.
  5. How long might the result last? And what maintenance or replacement may be needed over time?
  6. Can I preview the result? Photographs, digital design or a temporary trial smile can help.
  7. Who will carry out my treatment? And what is their training and experience in this area?
  8. What is the total cost? Including follow-up visits, maintenance and likely future replacement.
  9. How long will it take? And how many appointments are involved?
  10. What happens after treatment? Reviews, home care and protective devices such as night guards.

A good clinician will welcome these questions. Take your time, and do not feel pressured to decide on the day.
